Make my Day Not, WordPress huh?

This is a recent notification I got from WordPress:

“Your blog, sanseilife, appears to be getting more traffic than usual! 39 hourly views – 0 hourly views on average”

Was this designed to upset me, make me cry, zero hourly views on average boo hoo!  😢👎😧😓😒 Really WordPress I’d rather not get any of these notifications!

  1. I have just gotten this notification as well!!
Except my blog is apparently receiving “33 hourly views – 1 hourly views on average”
If only it was true …………

  2. Reblogged this on Author S B Mazing and commented:
WordPress having some kind of a glitch? I mean… First of all the message is pretty brutal and second of all, if you have 0 views and finally get to 39 it should not be an issue. I really hope it is a glitch otherwise we are all doomed as we are not supposed to grow our blogs…

  3. I’m not sure whether to be hurt that I’ve never had a notification like this or pleased to have escaped WP’s cattiness! Although if you ignore that final stinging remark 39 hourly views is awesome and definitely something to be proud of 🙂

  4. Hiya sanseilife 🙂 I would have commented where this was re-blogged, but comments over there have been disabled.

So, the way I see it, at some point, WordPress stats, and messages, are generally useful. On occasion when they display something useless, that’s just the exchange people accept for generally ‘free’ hosting services. I am constantly voicing that self-hosted WordPress sites offer much more control over stuff like this. WordPress.com doesn’t even force ads on readers.

Anyway, Aopinionatedman.com (Jay) re-blogged this post with an air of animosity, which I don’t feel is in the spirit of your post. And I’m not sure WordPress deserves an ‘eye roll’ because their native stats isn’t perfect. Stats packages rarely are absolute. One thing I agree with is that it would be nice to be able to turn off certain notifications. Perhaps it’s something for the WordPrpress forums.

    1. Thanks for taking the time to voice your opinion. It’s just that with my little blog this was like getting a face full of pie, kind of was a shock and I felt like I wasn’t doing a good job blogging for a few moments.

  5. I know the feeling. I’ve gotten those, too – and the worst part is the increased traffic is usually due to a GUEST post on my blog, not for one of MY posts! That really sticks the knife in, and twists it.

  6. I got one a few weeks back, I didn’t even pay any attention to it, just went on about my business like I never even got it. Like I said in my post last night though, I am seriously considering going the self hosting route with The Hillbilly Blogger.
