Anonymous Card! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Monty here with a guest post. I got this anonymous card in the mail. No return address and no signature. I think it’s a joke but I’m a dog so I’m not sure. Help me out here! Are those green shamrocks supposed to be my spots?
I think I’m much cuter than the dog on the card…
Maybe mom will give us corned beef for dinner. I hope she doesn’t give us cabbage instead!
October is My Birthday Month! And Birthday Haiku.
October is my birthday month. Since I am a rescue Mom does not have an exact date. I get treats and toys all month. Well this is true of months that aren’t even my birthday month.
I am one year old now and today is my last day of puppy food. Mom has been mixing it with big boy food and it is almost gone.
My birthday Haiku.
- I am a big boy
- so why am I still crated
- when Mom is at work?
Go Rockies! Happy 4th!
I love the Colorado Rockies fireworks games. Nothing more pleasant than a good baseball game (Rockies beat Cincinnati!) followed by a fireworks show. I couldn’t get tickets for a fireworks game this year so a friend surprised me with our favorite front row third base seats.

A ladies favorite who is previously tried to land in our laps in these very same seats!
July 8th last year!
Love front row third base and a great evening with the ladies!
The Year of the Fire Monkey or Red Monkey 1956 and 2016, Henry and Mom

Henry here with a guest blog post on something I share with Mom.
The year of the Fire Monkey occurs every 60 years, the last time was in 1956, the year Mom was born. The year 2016, the year I was born, is a Fire Monkey year running from February 8, 2016 to January 27, 2017. Not sure of my exact birthday as I am a rescue but it is the end of October so Mom and I decided we can share the same birthday, October 29th!
The year of the Monkey occurs every 12 years. Other types of Monkey years are Metal, Water, Wood and Earth.
Other famous Fire Monkey babies born in 2016 and 2017?
- Deveraux Octavian Basil Jagger born December 8th to Mick Jagger. The eighth child of the 73 year old Sir Mick Jagger. Long live rock-n-roll!
- River Rocket Oliver son of Chef Jamie Oliver born on August 8th. River’s siblings? Poppy Honey Rose, 14, Daisy Boo Pamela, 12, Petal Blossom Rainbow, 6, and Buddy Bear Maurice, 5.
- Sawyer Mathew Shay born December 31st, 10 minutes to midnight, making him one of the last babies to be born in 2016. And his twin Everett Jackson Shay born just after midnight on January 1st, making him one of the first new year’s babies of 2017.
- Hugo Wilson Dallas son of Prince Charming and Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas) born on June 1st. As you may recall from an earlier post, my Mom picked out my name Henry before she found me. She was reading a book called The Corner of Bitter and Sweet and the main character was Henry who she loved. At the same time she was watching Once Upon a Time on Netflix. Henry was the son of the Savior and the grandchild of Prince Charming and Snow White. She watched Henry grow from a boy to a brave and smart young man. I plan to grow from a small rescue puppy into a brave and smart dog.
Monkeys are known as: Ambitious, adventurous, clever and lucky. The outgoing nature of the Monkey makes them great performers. Monkeys have quick confident responses to anything they face. This coupled with their intelligence make them helpful allies in solving problems.
The Fire Monkey is the most passionate and energetic of the Monkeys. Fire Monkeys tend to be adventurous and risk-takers (this explains why I already stand and balance on my brother’s feeding dishes at mealtimes).
Fire Monkeys love to be the center of attention and I keep Roscoe, Monty and Mom hopping!

Have a happy day!
Operation Christmas Child
Each year our little community at Simpson United Methodist Church fills shoe boxes with surprises for children in need of a smile.
Operation Christmas Child is a project of the international relief organization Samaritan’s Purse. Donations of shoe boxes filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies for children who do not receive gifts, children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine and disease; and to children living on Native American reservations in the U.S.
The program started in the United Kingdom in 1990 by Dave and Jill Cooke has expanded and since then has delivered gift-filled shoe boxes to over 135 million children in more than 150 countries and territories.
Some fun things I found this year? A fluffy puppy purse with for some lucky girl (I wanted to keep it for myself and secretly named it Henry), and fold up back packs with about 30 different smiley face emoji decorations, purple for girls and blue for boys.
Molly Brown House Victorian Horrors
For my birthday my friend Judy surprised me with an adventure to the Molly Brown House. It’s great being an almost Halloween baby.
This year’s spooky entertainment: Gaston Leroux’s The Phantom of the Opera; H.G. Wells’ The Invisible Man; Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s The Yellow Wallpaper; Sarah Orne Jewitt’s Lady Ferry; and Edgar Allen Poe’s The Cask of Amontillado.
I wish I could have taken pictures of the actors and decorations but no pictures allowed.
The three story house is over 100 years old and many people have lived there. Margaret Brown (who became known as the “Unsinkable Molly Brown,” after surviving the sinking of the Titanic in 1912) would rent her house to wealthy families when she was out of town and she also had boarders during the lean times. After her death the house was briefly a gentlemen’s boarding house and a home for wayward girls.
Walking through this home filled with thousands of vintage treasures you are able to lose yourself in the Victorian love of macabre and celebration of the chilling stories told this night. The floorboards creaked during the readings and narrow steep stairways threatened to pull you down. Faded wallpaper caress shoulders and banisters touched by hundreds now gone send shivers to your core.
I was able to take this picture of my favorite ghoul Emma. She silently slinked around the edges of the group keeping us all herded together.
But not all was grisly as the ghosts of the Molly Brown house only laughed at our foolishness on holding our breaths during the story telling. The real ghosts of the Molly Brown house are former inhabitants that love the house and don’t want to leave. They made the experience pleasantly spooky but did nothing to truly terrorize us!
I felt a warm connection with Margaret Brown and was an amazed to discover the source of that connection is that she helped found the Denver Dumb Friends League and thus my search for my next rescue puppy, Henry!

I was born in the year of the Fire Monkey in 1956 along with Tom Hanks and Carrie Fisher. Other famous people born in the year of the Fire Monkey are David Copperfield, Chris Isaak and Ann Curry.

Although I may never win an Oscar, play the role of a Princess, make the Statue of Liberty disappear, write a Top Ten song, or win an award for my journalism, I realize my true honor is to be in the company of these very impressive Fire Monkeys.
The Fire Monkey is the most passionate and energetic of the Monkeys. Fire Monkeys tend to be adventurous and risk-takers (this explains my bungee jump).
Fire Monkeys love to be the center of attention (this explains my need to blog).
It is expected that there will be a baby boom in China this year as many parents will want to have a child born in the year of the Fire Monkey giving their child a successful, lucky and happy long life.
Make My Day, Orchids That Keep On Blooming!
This lovely orchid is somehow surviving my my house.
It is bumped daily by large dogs barking at the mailman and any other intruder in the yard. It also is regularly NOT watered. I do remember to give it a special orchid only food about twice a year and water it about 3 times a month.
I got this from my choir buddies when my husband died a couple of years ago and this is the third or fourth time it has bloomed. I think just in time for
HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!
