Little free library a.k.a. book exchange

I recently forgot to bring a book for an errand (to the motor vehicle division) where I knew I was in for a long wait.  There is a Little Free Library or Book Exchange at the end of the parking lot at work and I found this book by P.D. James in there.  I am embarrassed to say I had not heard of her or read anything by her.

Her writing style is something new to me and I am really enjoying reading this book!  Unfortunately she died a couple of years ago.  She did write over 20 books in her lifetime so I will be able to continue to read her mystery novels.

“When I first heard that Humpty Dumpty fell off the wall,” she was fond of saying, “I immediately wondered: Did he fall — or was he pushed?”

Who knows how many books are sitting on shelves waiting to be read or reread.  Or do you have a favorite book you want to share with others?  Just place it in the free reading library!  You may change someone’s life.

Donating Platelets and Plasma

Platelets only last for five days.  The need for donors is high.

Today my levels were great.  A double platelet and one unit of plasma donated.

Here us a selfie done by the apheresis machine.  I was able to practice my photo bombing skills by hiding under a blankie!

imageThe movie I watched during my procedure? Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter!

Donate Platelets, A Great Need During Holidays

Received a call from Bonfils Blood Center, they’re looking for donors so they can get people home for the holidays.

I wasn’t able to make it before Christmas but I hope to see you there on Saturday when I have my appointment. They especially need platelets because it’s a bit of a time commitment. Just for your information, they have a huge selection of movies to watch while you are making your donation.

I haven’t paid for movie in a while!

Today’s Extreme Dessert

My daughter Haley and I stopped in for a glass of wine at this wonderful winery in Arvada, Colorado.  We tried several different wines passing glasses back and forth 🙂

Silver Vines Winery

imageNot only was the staff extremely friendly, the other patrons were chatty and helpful.  We had a blast.

Brothers Jeff and Daniel Chayer are the owners.  Jeff is the winemaker and Daniel is the general manager.

They know their business and who their customers are:

Who doesn’t love chocolate and red wine?  Put them together and the brothers Chayer have a winner!

Today’s Extreme Dessert?  The Chocolate Delight which was delightfully yummy combining these two favorites, chocolate and Zinfandel.

Check out their wine club, an awesome value, I’m going to be able pick up my wine in person, yay just down the street!

Iron Casting Performance, Ceramics Raku, and Torch Glass Demonstrations, Arvada Center

This is Mary Lou’s mold after it was cast in iron during the Iron Pour and Performance at the Arvada Center by the Western Cast Iron Art Alliance.

Molds were available for carving on the spot.

This one is Mary Lou’s before the the iron was poured into it and then placed into a cupola or furnace.

imageHere the iron is being poured into the carved molds.

imageQuite a crowd!

There was also on display a ceramic firing technique called Raku and a glass demonstration.

Haley and Matt clowning with the Yak & Yeti, a local restaurant serving cuisine of India, Nepal and Tibet (and awesome brewpub).

Today’s Muse, Singing in the Choir

Muse:  A source of inspiration and a guiding spirit.

Today’s Muse is the Choir

A few years ago I joined the choir at church.  I had never really sung publicly before and couldn’t read music.  They were looking for people who wanted to make a joyful noise!

What is a choir?  Just a group of singers?

A choir speaks to you through a song.  But it is more than that, it is a pouring out of stories, dreams and hopes.

Listening to another choir member during a solo makes my heart soar. Performing a solo in a choir is not a lonely thing.  It is an amazing experience as the entire choir supports you, sharing and experiencing the singing of the story and message.

The choir is not just a group of singers but is a group that has become one.

With 16 taps they have something for everyone.  Low gluten brews that are very very tasty.  I tried a couple of their IPAs and found them totally awesome.

Have friends that don’t drink?  They’ll be pleasantly surprised too.  Brewery Rickoli makes their owns sodas, no high fructose corn syrup to be found.
