Thanks Zeb, picked up some great books!

Thank you to Zeb who is an unlikely friend of Roscoe, Monty and Henry over at Colorado Traveling Ducks blog.

Unlikely because Zeb is a duck!

Zeb told me about a cool book sale by the Jefferson County Library this weekend.   On the last day of the sale, today, it was six dollars for a big bag of books.

Some of the money they earn is used for children’s literacy. I believe children need books for their imaginations and confidence to grow.

Here are some books I picked up today and will donate to a local community free shop.  Yay books for children!

I also love to rescue cook books and donate them to the neighborhood little free library.  I love to read the recipes before I donate the books. I never seem to cook anything out of the books but this one has recipes for pets and humans:

For sure I’m gonna make the deviled eggs that is suitable for dogs and their humans.

This  International recipe  book has a recipe for sesame crusted salmon with orange miso sauce. Yikes!  And a Mojito where I can use those mint leaves growing in my yard.   Or the soy ginger beef and noodle salad with peanut dressing? How does that sound for a yummy refreshing summer dinner?  And a simple dessert, balsamic strawberries with whipped Mascarpone cheese.  Ha I don’t know what Mascarpone cheese is, I guess I’m saved from that recipe!

OK I guess I’m gonna have to brain storm with my friend Jane, who doesn’t even wilt at the thought of cooking for over 100 people.   Once she sees the salmon recipe I’ll have her hooked.   She will instantly radically change the recipes, making them her own with only a hint of the original recipe ( and better than the original recipe ).  Plus she will include handy tips.  And I’ll be able to share Jane’s recipes without breaking any copy right rules!

Hey Zeb the duck, thank you again!

Little Free Library

Who did I happen to see this last week at the Little Free Library at the end of the parking lot?

An elderly man  neighborhood who walks over to get his books.  He told me he never went to the regular library any more.

Someone walking their dog, there are dog treats in our little free library.

And our mail delivery person!

All the cookbooks and I’ve put in there now gone. I’m going to add this one today.

This is a rescue cookbook from the thrift store. I never cook anything out of these books I just sit and read them over and over, they are like good friends.

Need to introduce my friends to others right?

Thrift Store Rescue!

A small food bank run by a local church near me has an even smaller free library for the families and homeless people it serves.

No children’s books!?!  Gotta fix that!  Children need books to nourish their minds   For less than $15.00 these books will fill the lower shelf of the small library for those kids!

Little free library a.k.a. book exchange

I recently forgot to bring a book for an errand (to the motor vehicle division) where I knew I was in for a long wait.  There is a Little Free Library or Book Exchange at the end of the parking lot at work and I found this book by P.D. James in there.  I am embarrassed to say I had not heard of her or read anything by her.

Her writing style is something new to me and I am really enjoying reading this book!  Unfortunately she died a couple of years ago.  She did write over 20 books in her lifetime so I will be able to continue to read her mystery novels.

“When I first heard that Humpty Dumpty fell off the wall,” she was fond of saying, “I immediately wondered: Did he fall — or was he pushed?”

Who knows how many books are sitting on shelves waiting to be read or reread.  Or do you have a favorite book you want to share with others?  Just place it in the free reading library!  You may change someone’s life.

Booker here, a guest blogger at sanseilife and a Little Free Library.

Who visits the Little Free Library?

John and his dog Shadow visit every day for 2 dog treats.  Shadow first must sit and then shake hands.

John never even looked at the books.  Just not interested in reading some story.  Today this book caught his eye.

John has always wondered about fly fishing and just retired last year.  John definitely has the reading bug now!

Who knows how many books are sitting on shelves waiting to be read or reread.   This free program allows you to pick a book, keep it for as long as you need to finish reading it, return it and exchange it for a new book.

Or do you have a favorite book you want to share with others?  Just place it in the free reading library!  You may change someone’s life.

This is really a neighborhood book exchange located in the small suburb of Arvada, Colorado at 74th and Wadsworth.  It creates an opportunity for neighbors to share books, including children’s books.

The best part?  Note the dog treats!

Booker out now, hope to see you soon.
